In the Spotlight
New California Coalition for Caregivers
There is a new coalition in California that works to empower family caregivers and to advocate and educate on behalf of all caregivers statewide. The coalition is comprised of a host of organizations, including but not limited to the Association of California Caregiver Resource Centers, AARP, Family Caregiver Alliance, the Alzheimer's Association, the California Association for Adult Day Services, and the American Society on Aging.
The coalition works to advocate for caregiver-friendly policies and programs, empower caregivers to mobilize and advocate on their own behalf, and increase public awareness of contributions and needs of caregivers. Coalition representatives meet quarterly to work on current issues affecting family caregivers in California.
The California Coalition for Caregivers will be holding its first public event on Wednesday, May 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ruby Gerontology Center in Fullerton, California. This networking forum is open to both professionals and family caregivers and will provide an opportunity for attendees to address the health, legal, and legislative concerns of family caregivers.
